Service description
Aletheia is an accessibility assistance tool that reads inaccessible web pages and documents and rebuilds them into a more accessible form on your device. It offers OCR for scanned PDFs, content restructuring, form labeling, and image descriptions generated on your device or, on certain tiers, through cloud AI you opt into or provide a key for.
Important disclaimer
Aletheia does not guarantee that all accessibility barriers will be resolved. AI-generated image descriptions may contain errors. OCR output may not perfectly reproduce the original text. Restructured content reflects an automated interpretation of the source. Verify critical information independently, particularly for medical, legal, financial, or governmental decisions.
Aletheia is not a substitute for the legal obligations that content publishers and institutions have under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 508, the Rehabilitation Act, the European Accessibility Act, or any other accessibility law. The original content owner remains responsible for making their content accessible.
Accounts
Every tier, including Free, requires an account. You create one using OAuth single sign-on through Google or Microsoft. There is no email and password login. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in secure with your identity provider. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and the Student tier requires a verified .edu email address.
Acceptable use
You may use Aletheia to make content accessible for your own use or for someone you are assisting. You may not:
- Use Aletheia to circumvent technical protections on copyrighted content for purposes other than accessibility.
- Use Aletheia to mass-scrape, mirror, or redistribute third-party websites. The scanning feature is provided for individual accessibility translation, not bulk content extraction.
- Scan URLs that you do not have the right to access, or that violate the target site's terms of service, copyright policies, or robots.txt directives.
- Use the scanning feature to gather information about systems you do not own, including penetration testing or unauthorized vulnerability research on third-party properties.
- Attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, or interfere with the service in ways unrelated to accessing your own data.
- Use the image description features to process content that violates the policies of the AI provider involved.
- Use Aletheia to process content that is unlawful in your jurisdiction, including content that infringes intellectual property rights, violates privacy rights, or constitutes harassment.
Account Restrictions
Lonia AI may restrict or terminate access to any Lonia AI service, including Aletheia, in response to abuse of our services, fraud, chargebacks initiated in bad faith, attempts to evade prior restrictions, or other violations of these Terms.
Restrictions apply at the platform level. A restriction added in connection with one Lonia AI service may prevent account creation or payment on any other Lonia AI service. Hashed identifiers of restricted actors are retained under legitimate business interest.
Restricted actors may submit a one-time appeal by writing to privacy@lonia.ai. Lonia AI will review the appeal in good faith and will lift the restriction if the appeal demonstrates the restriction was made in error. Repeated abuse after a restriction is lifted may result in permanent restriction without further appeal.
Your content
The documents and pages you process stay on your device, and you retain all rights in your content. When you use a cloud image description feature, you grant the limited right to send the specific image you chose to the relevant AI provider for the sole purpose of returning a description, after which it is discarded.
URL scanning responsibility
The URL scanning feature lets you point Aletheia at any web page, PDF, Word document, or image accessible on the public internet, and Aletheia produces an accessible version on your device. You are solely responsible for the URLs you choose to scan.
By using the scanning feature, you confirm that:
- You have the right to access and process the content at the URL you submitted.
- Your use of the scanned content complies with the target site's terms of service, copyright policies, robots.txt directives, and applicable law.
- You will not use Aletheia to access content that is not lawfully available to you, including paywalled content you have not paid for, private content you have not been authorized to view, or content behind authentication that you are not entitled to bypass.
- You will not use Aletheia to scan content that infringes intellectual property rights, violates privacy rights, or constitutes harassment.
Aletheia does not actively monitor the URLs you scan or the content they return. Aletheia operates fetch protections to keep the service safe for all users (described in our Privacy Policy under URL scanning), but those protections are not a substitute for your responsibility as the requester.
If a target site, content owner, or third party contacts Lonia AI regarding your use of the scanning feature, Lonia AI may suspend or restrict your account pending review and, where appropriate, may cooperate with lawful requests for information about repeat offenders.
Subscriptions and billing
Paid plans bill monthly or yearly depending on the option you select, and are processed by Stripe. Yearly plans are billed once per year and include one month free compared with paying monthly. Your subscription renews automatically until you cancel.
Cancellation and refunds
You can cancel at any time through the Stripe customer portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and documents already saved to your local library remain on your device. We do not pro-rate refunds for partial periods unless required by law. Refund requests can be made through the Stripe customer portal or by contacting support@lonia.ai.
Intellectual property
Aletheia, the Aletheia name, the Lonia AI name, and all associated logos and design elements are property of Lonia AI. You may not use them in a way that suggests endorsement of an unrelated product or service.
Service availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Because Aletheia processes content locally, downtime of our marketing site or account systems does not prevent you from using already-saved accessible versions in your local library.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lonia AI is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of Aletheia. Our aggregate liability for direct damages is limited to the amount you paid us for Aletheia in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Lonia AI and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) your use of Aletheia, including any use of the URL scanning feature; (b) your violation of these terms; (c) your violation of any third party's rights, including intellectual property, privacy, or contractual rights of the operators of sites you scan; or (d) your violation of any applicable law or regulation.
Termination
You can end your use of Aletheia at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, after notice where practical. Termination of your account does not affect content already saved to your local device.
Changes to these terms
If we materially change these terms, we will update the "last updated" date and notify active users at least 30 days before the change takes effect for them.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict of laws principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey.

Questions about these terms can be sent to support@lonia.ai.
