General

What is Aletheia?

Aletheia is a user-side accessibility tool. It reads inaccessible web pages and documents and rebuilds them with real text, described images, proper headings and landmarks, and labeled forms. The work happens on your own device, under your control.

Who is Aletheia for?

Anyone who runs into content that assistive technology cannot use, including blind and low-vision users, deaf and hard-of-hearing users, users with cognitive or motor disabilities, students, and the people helping them. Aletheia puts the fix in the hands of the person who needs it.

Do I need an account?

Yes. Aletheia uses Google or Microsoft sign-in. There is no email and password option. The Free tier requires a Google or Microsoft account to sign in, but no credit card.

What platforms does Aletheia run on?

Aletheia runs in the browser. Platform support is ordered Android Chrome first, then iOS Safari, then current desktop browsers.

Pricing and billing

How much does Aletheia cost?

There is a permanent Free tier at no cost. Paid consumer tiers are Student at $5.99 per month, Personal at $14.99 per month, Family at $24.99 per month, and Professional at $39.99 per month. Yearly pricing is also available on each paid tier. Campus and Enterprise are licensed per seat for institutions: Campus starts at $12.99 per seat per month with a 50-seat minimum, using volume pricing across five bands sized to enrollment, and Enterprise starts at $24.99 per seat per month with a 25-seat minimum, using graduated pricing across five bands where each seat is priced by the band it falls into. Stripe calculates the institutional total automatically at checkout.

What does yearly billing include?

Yearly billing includes one month free compared with paying monthly. The pricing page toggle shows the exact monthly and yearly amount for each tier.

How does checkout work?

Paid tiers use pay-first checkout. Choosing a paid plan opens secure checkout through Stripe, and after payment you are signed in to the app. The Free tier skips checkout and takes you straight to sign-in with Google or Microsoft.

Is the Free tier really free?

Yes. The Free tier covers 10 scans per month, at up to 25 pages per scan, with on-device processing, no credit card, and no expiration. It is a permanent tier, not a trial.

What counts as a scan, and what are the monthly limits?

A scan is one file upload, one webpage capture, or one camera capture. A file scan can run up to the page limit on your plan, while webpage and camera captures always count as one scan, however long the content is. The monthly allowances are 10 scans at up to 25 pages each on Free, 30 scans at up to 50 pages each on Student, 500 scans at up to 200 pages each on Personal, 1000 shared scans at up to 200 pages each on Family, and 3000 scans at up to 500 pages each on Professional. Campus includes 1500 scans per seat per month and Enterprise includes 7500 scans per seat per month, both at up to 500 pages per scan.

AI and privacy

How does image description work?

By default, descriptions are generated on your device with a compact vision model, with no data leaving the device. On Personal and Family you can opt in to Enhanced AI, which sends a single image to Lonia-provided cloud AI for a higher-detail description. Professional connects your own AI key, called directly from your browser. Enterprise uses one institution-managed key held server-side by Lonia's Enterprise Worker, which makes Enhanced AI calls on the institution's behalf.

Does Lonia see my API key?

On Professional, no. Your key stays in your browser, every AI call is made directly from your browser to your provider, and Lonia never sees your key. On Enterprise, your organization's admin sends the institutional key to Lonia's Enterprise Worker once, over TLS. The key is envelope-encrypted server-side with a master-key wrapping mechanism and stored encrypted at rest. The Worker decrypts it at request time to make Enhanced AI calls on your institution's behalf, and the key material is never returned to any client.

Does my data leave my device?

Documents are processed and stored on your device and are not uploaded to a server. The only data that leaves the device is a single image you explicitly choose to send for Enhanced AI or to your own AI key, and account information needed to apply your plan and process billing.

Are there limits on Enhanced AI?

Yes. Personal includes up to 500 Enhanced AI descriptions per month. Family includes up to 1000 per month, shared across up to five users. Free, Student, and Campus use on-device descriptions only. Professional and Enterprise run Enhanced AI on your own API key, so Lonia does not meter it.

Do you sell my data?

No. Aletheia does not sell your data, does not run advertising trackers, and does not use third-party analytics or telemetry. There is no central document store to sell from.

Accessibility

Is Aletheia itself accessible?

Yes. The interface targets WCAG 2.2 AA and aligns with Section 508 across every screen, with full keyboard operation and screen reader support. A tool that removes accessibility barriers cannot be a barrier itself.

Which screen readers are supported?

Aletheia targets support for NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver, using semantic HTML and ARIA only where needed.

How do I report an accessibility problem?

Email accessibility@lonia.ai with a description of the page or feature, the assistive technology you were using, and what happened. If you prefer, support@lonia.ai also accepts accessibility reports. Accessibility reports are treated as bugs and prioritized ahead of feature work.

Institutional

Do you offer licensing for schools and organizations?

Yes. Campus is per-seat licensing for schools, sized by enrollment, with on-device processing across all seats and 1500 scans per seat per month at up to 500 pages per scan. Enterprise is per-seat licensing for organizations, sized by seat count, with bring-your-own-key AI, on-device fallback, and 7500 scans per seat per month at up to 500 pages per scan.

How is institutional billing handled?

Campus and Enterprise purchases begin with sign-in using your Google or Microsoft account. This verifies your identity and, for Campus, your academic domain. You then complete institution setup and are redirected to secure Stripe checkout, where Stripe calculates the per-seat total automatically. Campus and Enterprise use ACH billing and a privacy-walled admin dashboard. Final per-seat pricing is sized to your deployment. Contact campus@lonia.ai or enterprise@lonia.ai for a quote.

Is Aletheia FERPA-aligned for schools?

Yes, and the FERPA data segmentation is live, not planned. Student documents are processed on the device and are not held in a central store, so the Campus admin dashboard is privacy-walled and administrators do not see individual student content. Student-scoped account data carries an institution identifier that bounds each administrator to their own institution, is classified K-12 or higher education, and is deleted on a configurable retention schedule that defaults to 365 days. Individual student visibility is available only through a separate FERPA-privileged path that is off by default, protected by two gates, and audit-logged on every use.

If you're a university, college, K-12 district, or state education system, see Campus. Campus is built specifically for education buyers, with live FERPA data segmentation, Section 508 alignment, a published VPAT accessibility report, and procurement-ready terms tailored to education sector buying. Pricing also starts lower for Campus to match education sector economics.

Cancellation, refunds, and account standing

Can I cancel?

Yes. You can cancel at any time through the Stripe customer portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Documents already saved in your local library stay on your device.

Do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled per our Terms of Service. Cancellation ends future charges; partial periods are not pro-rated unless required by law.

What if my account is restricted?

Lonia AI may restrict accounts that show a documented pattern of subscription abuse, chargeback fraud, or service abuse. Restrictions are based on documented behavior, not on any protected characteristic. Restricted accounts may submit a one-time appeal by contacting privacy@lonia.ai.
