General
What is Aletheia?
Aletheia is a user-side accessibility tool. It reads inaccessible web pages and documents and rebuilds them with real text, described images, proper headings and landmarks, and labeled forms. The work happens on your own device, under your control.
Who is Aletheia for?
Anyone who runs into content that assistive technology cannot use, including blind and low-vision users, deaf and hard-of-hearing users, users with cognitive or motor disabilities, students, and the people helping them. Aletheia puts the fix in the hands of the person who needs it.
Do I need an account?
Yes. Aletheia uses Google or Microsoft sign-in. There is no email and password option. The Free tier requires a Google or Microsoft account to sign in, but no credit card.
What platforms does Aletheia run on?
Aletheia runs in the browser. Platform support is ordered Android Chrome first, then iOS Safari, then current desktop browsers.
Pricing and billing
How much does Aletheia cost?
There is a permanent Free tier at no cost. Paid consumer tiers are Student at $5.99 per month, Personal at $14.99 per month, Family at $24.99 per month, and Professional at $39.99 per month. Yearly pricing is also available on each paid tier. Campus and Enterprise are licensed per seat for institutions.
What does yearly billing include?
Yearly billing includes one month free compared with paying monthly. The pricing page toggle shows the exact monthly and yearly amount for each tier.
How does checkout work?
Paid tiers use pay-first checkout. Choosing a paid plan opens secure checkout through Stripe, and after payment you are signed in to the app. The Free tier skips checkout and takes you straight to sign-in with Google or Microsoft.
Is the Free tier really free?
Yes. The Free tier covers 10 pages per month with on-device processing, no credit card, and no expiration. It is a permanent tier, not a trial.
AI and privacy
How does image description work?
By default, descriptions are generated on your device with a compact vision model, with no data leaving the device. On Personal and Family you can opt in to Enhanced AI, which sends a single image to Lonia-provided cloud AI for a higher-detail description. Professional and Enterprise connect your own AI key instead.
Does my data leave my device?
Documents are processed and stored on your device and are not uploaded to a server. The only data that leaves the device is a single image you explicitly choose to send for Enhanced AI or to your own AI key, and account information needed to apply your plan and process billing.
Are there limits on Enhanced AI?
Yes. Personal includes up to 500 Enhanced AI descriptions per month. Family includes up to 1500 per month, shared across up to five users. Free, Student, and Campus use on-device descriptions only.
Do you sell my data?
No. Aletheia does not sell your data, does not run advertising trackers, and does not use third-party analytics or telemetry. There is no central document store to sell from.
Accessibility
Is Aletheia itself accessible?
Yes. The interface targets WCAG 2.2 AA and aligns with Section 508 across every screen, with full keyboard operation and screen reader support. A tool that removes accessibility barriers cannot be a barrier itself.
Which screen readers are supported?
Aletheia is tested with NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver, using semantic HTML and ARIA only where needed.
How do I report an accessibility problem?
Email support@lonia.ai or privacy@lonia.ai with a description of the page or feature, the assistive technology you were using, and what happened. Accessibility reports are treated as bugs and prioritized ahead of feature work.
Institutional
Do you offer licensing for schools and organizations?
Yes. Campus is per-seat licensing for schools, sized by enrollment, with on-device processing across all seats. Enterprise is per-seat licensing for organizations, sized by seat count, with bring-your-own-key AI and on-device fallback.
How is institutional billing handled?
Campus and Enterprise use ACH billing and a privacy-walled admin dashboard. Final per-seat pricing is sized to your deployment. Contact campus@lonia.ai or enterprise@lonia.ai for a quote.
Is Aletheia FERPA-aligned for schools?
Aletheia is FERPA-aligned by architecture: student documents are processed on the device and are not held in a central store. The Campus admin dashboard is privacy-walled so administrators do not see individual student content.
Cancellation, refunds, and account standing
Can I cancel?
Yes. You can cancel at any time through the Stripe customer portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Documents already saved in your local library stay on your device.
Do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled per our Terms of Service. Cancellation ends future charges; partial periods are not pro-rated unless required by law.
What if my account is restricted?
Lonia AI may restrict accounts that show a documented pattern of subscription abuse, chargeback fraud, or service abuse. Restrictions are based on documented behavior, not on any protected characteristic. Restricted accounts may submit a one-time appeal by contacting privacy@lonia.ai.
